Gerry Harmon

Gerry G. Harmon, 79, of New Castle passed away Friday, August 29, 2008 at Hickory Creek following an extended illness. She was born June 14, 1929 in Copemich, Michigan to the late Lee and Vala (Burgoyne) Ashcraft. She was a merchandising manager for Hooks Drug Stores before retiring with 29 years of service. Gerry and her late husband, Clyde, were avid Cincinnati Reds fans and enjoyed traveling to various cities to see them play. Gerry’s life has always been about her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent most of her free time traveling to her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events. Survivors include her children: Dennis (wife: Marsha) Harmon of New Castle; her daughter: Debra (husband: Dale) Farmer of New Castle; and son: Dean Harmon of New Castle; her grandchildren: Brian Harmon of Shelbyville; Beth (husband: Wes) Weaver of Granger; Lisa (husband: Nicholas) Richards of Denver, CO; Lori (husband : Josh) Thurman of New Castle; Craig (wife: Teresa) Harmon of Greenfield; and Shantelle (husband: Jason) Pokorny of Fort Wayne; her great grandchildren: Jaclyn McGraw; Nicholas and Alexis Weaver; Evan, Aidan, and Tyler Thurman; Derek and Alyssa Harmon; and Gavin and Ava Pokorny; brother-in-law: Martin Nyrkkanen; and sister-in-law: Agatha Ashcraft. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Helen Wells; Veral Burns; Gladys Rinard; and Hope Nyrkkanen; and two brothers: Lee Ashcraft Jr. and V.C. Ashcraft. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Reverend Ron Branham officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from noon until time of service on Tuesday.
