Glenda May Thompson, 77, passed away on March 19, 2026. She was born on July 23, 1948, in New Castle, to the late Glenn Thompson and Betty (Wiley) Roland.
A 1966 graduate of Knightstown High School, where she was a proud member of the honor society, Glenda exhibited the intelligence and determination that would shape her career and personal life. She chose a path of service through clerical work for the military, beginning her professional journey in Indianapolis. She spent her final years at Fort Harrison before her retirement in 2003. Retirement did not slow Glenda’s desire to contribute to society. She graciously offered her time volunteering at Hancock Regional Hospital for over 20 years.
Though Glenda never had children of her own, she embraced her role as a beloved aunt with heartfelt affection. She loved her nieces and nephews dearly, attending their events with enthusiasm and support.
Outside of her dedication to family and work, Glenda was a woman of varied interests. She found pleasure in bowling, reading, and water aerobics, activities that kept her both engaged and active. She also had a passion for traveling and loved dining out. A true enthusiast of family history and ancestry, Glenda cherished uncovering the stories and legacies that connected her to her roots.
Those left to cherish her memory include her siblings, Connie Belcher, Patty (Tom) Hardymon, and Rhonda Whitfield; special lifelong friend, Patricia Mattix; Special niece and caregiver, Carrie (David) Lacy; nieces and nephews, Christy (Brad) Epperson, Tara Copp, Ryan Whitfield, Brittany Sanders, Ashley Hardymon, Casey Whitfield, Amanda (Derek) Rogers, and Jared (Chelsea) Peck; 22 great nieces and nephews; 3 great great nieces and nephews; and a great great nephew that is on the way.
Glenda was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Thompson; her mother and stepfather, Betty and Jack Roland; grandfather, Fred Wiley; and nieces, Amber Whitfield and Autumn Whitfield.
Graveside services will be at 11:00am on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Mark Herbkersman officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. You may express condolences or share a memory of Glenda at www.hinsey-brown.com.
