Gloria Mae Montgomery

Gloria Mae Montgomery, 86, of New Castle, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the Waters of New Castle. She was born March 25, 1937 in New Castle to the late George W. and Bertha L. (Butler) Shelton.

Gloria received her GED from New Castle High School was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a life time member of the VFW and DAV Auxiliaries and also belonged to the Eagles Lodge in New Castle. Gloria enjoyed fishing and loved animals, especially her dogs. She loved spending time with friends, traveling, cooking and flowers. She was a long-time member of Open Arms Church in New Castle.

Survivors include her step-children, Theodore B. (Donica) Van Poppel of Ocala, Florida, Jack “Sonny” Montgomery of Chicago, Illinois, Peggy (Marty) Whitson of Tennessee, Allen (Jaran) Montgomery of Aurora, Illinois and Dawn (Terry) Jones of New Castle; step-grandchildren, Pamela Ann Van Poppel and Theodore B. Van Poppel, Jr. both of Ocala, Florida; Sister-in-law, Elsie Gray of Ohio and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ted Van Poppel and Kenneth “Monty” Montgomery; sister, Betty Shelton and special friend, Joe Lee.

Services will be held at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, February, 7, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Pastor Ricky Davis officiating. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery at a later date.
