Gregory "Gene" Velie

Gregory “Gene” Velie, 48, of New Castle passed away on Tuesday December 2, 2025, at Henry Community Health. He was born on January 19, 1977, in Mobile Alabama to the late Larry Velie and Terry Kemp.

Gene was a dedicated family man that loved spending time with loved ones. A huge Indianapolis Colts fan Gene’s favorite player was Grover Stewart. He enjoyed coaching youth flag football, playing the guitar, fishing and hunting. Gene collected old coins and silver. He also enjoyed watching MMA matches.

He is survived by his wife, Sunny Velie; children, Austin Velie and Victoria Velie; stepchildren, Izyk Pittman and Elijah Pittman; brothers, Buddy (Shandi) Kemp and Brian (Tammy) Velie; aunts, Donna (Kenneth) Pierce, Louann Wright and Robin Joslin; uncle, Gene Bo Kemp; along with numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Greg is preceded in death by a brother, Brannon Velie.

Services will be on Monday December 8, 2025, at 6:00 pm at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the time of the service.
