Harold “Hank” L. Gray, 80, of Mt. Summit passed away Friday, June 14, 2024. He was born April 24, 1944 in New Castle to the late Elmer William Sr. and Mary Marcella (Hart) Gray. Hank was a loving family man and an all-around good guy.
Hank retired from Dana Corporation following more than 30 years of service. He was a 1962 graduate of Mooreland High School where he was an exceptional ball player. Hank enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great grandson. He was an avid sports fan and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed fishing, the 50-60’s, a country music fan and was a great dancer. He and his wife, Shirley, were great together on the dance floor. Following his retirement from Dana, Hank was a jack of all trades and loved giving to others. He loved his flowers, yard work and just generally being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Elaine (Benedict) Gray; son, William Richard (Penny) Gray of New Castle; a daughter, Melissa Marie Gray of Spokane, Washington; a granddaughter, Allison D. Gray of Mt. Summit; a grandson, Robert E. Gray of New Castle, a great grandson, Isaiah Gray of Mt. Summit; sisters, Ruby Eileen (Bob) Sexton and Ruth Elaine “Lanie” (Steve) Lamb; sisters-in-law, Rosemary (Benedict) Mastin and Agusta (Benedict) Lindsey; a brother-in-law, Donald (Carolyn) Benedict and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer W. Gray Jr., Marvin Paul Gray and Joseph E. Gray; sisters, Barbara L. Allen and Carolyn K. Myers; father and mother-in-law, John and Hilda Benedict; brothers -n-law, Ronnie, Albert Jr., and Harold Benedict; sisters-in-law, Helen Litton, Emma Lou Massengale, Mildred Adkins, Patricia Healton and Linda Massengale; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Charles Dugger officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
