Herman Lee Strong

Apr 15, 1950 — Oct 16, 2026

New Castle

Herman Lee Strong, 76, a resident of Willows Nursing Home in New Castle and temporarily in Henry County Community Health Hospital, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Friday, October 16, 2026. He was born on April 15, 1950, in New Castle, to the late Arthur Gene and Geraldine Faye (Magee) Strong.

Herman was a 1968 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School and attended 2 years at Ball State University. Herman changed career choices several times throughout his life (machinist, retail and food management, race judge at Anderson Speedway) and retired from being a correctional officer at Pendleton Correctional Industrial Facility, which was then called “CIC”.

Herman was a people person and loved to be ornery and make people laugh. He always enjoyed many hobbies over the years such as family events, camping, fishing, go-cart racing, RC airplanes, regular and saltwater aquariums, bowling, racing spectator/judge, motorcycle riding, slot car racing, and jigsaw puzzles. He also loved watching TV shows such as Bob Ross painting, all different racing events, and wrestling.

Herman married his high school sweetheart Darlene (Foster) Strong on July 5, 1969. They enjoyed raising their children and love spending time with grandchildren. Herman loved showing off his great grandchildren as well.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Chianti (John) Guy, Aaron (Lea) Strong, and Amanda (Corey) Strong; grandchildren, Adam (Alison) Guy, Tiana Guy, Auriah Lindsay, PJ Lindsay, Ashlyn Lindsay, Kennedi Strong, and Kaylea (James) Davis; great grandchildren, Atlas Guy, Aslan Guy, Adalee Guy, Camdyn Davis, and Alayna Davis; special sister-in-law, Geavonna (Louis) Shelton; nieces, Eliza Shelton and Isabella Shelton; brother-in-law, John (Karen) Foster and family; sister-in-law, Joyce (James) Allen and family; and other special cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his infant brother, Larry Gene Strong; his parent-in-laws; brothers-in-law, Paul Foster Jr. and Terry Foster; and his loving wife of 40 years, Darlene Strong.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and family at The Willows Nursing Home.
