Hubert Wayne “Hubie” Bilbrey, 80, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away on July 18, 2025 of a brief illness. Hubert was born on October 21, 1944 to Willie and Alpha Downs Bilbrey in New Castle, Indiana, who proceeded him in death.
Hubert graduated from Knightstown High School in 1963 and retired from General Motors in 1995. Hubert was a member of the Middletown Masonic Lodge #271. Throughout his life he remained deeply connected to his Indiana roots, where he built a life centered around family and friends.
Hubert was the life of the party – he never met a stranger! He loved to fish and especially enjoyed playing golf on Tuesday and Thursday with his golfing buddies. He always looked forward to his Wednesday nights shared with his chicken wing group. Hubert enjoyed traveling; in recent years he travelled to Cancun, Jamacia, and Florida as well as Tulsa, Oklahoma to watch the Chili Bowl midget car races. Hubert’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
Hubert is survived by a loving family who will carry on his legacy. He leaves behind his daughter, Tonya (Chris) Vorisek; his son, Greg (Lisa) Burke; caregiver and bonus family, Missy, Jason, Brady, and Kaleb Alumbaugh; his sister, Judy Gulley and niece, Cedar Shoultz; his grandchildren, Ryan (Hannah) Burke, T.J. Burke, Katie (Jay) Clark, Loren Burke, Josh (Cain) Burke, Noah Vorisek, Sean Vorisek and Mikayla Bilbrey and several great-grandchildren. They were a source of great pride and joy in his life.
He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Vicky Wise, Beverly (Charles) Vaughn, Dixie Shaffer, Thelma Teeters, Pat (Merrill) Schuyler and special friends, Darrell and Judy Haines and family, Ron Fannin, Dick Fannin, Jackie Logan and Candi Crye.
Hubert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra “Sue” Bilbrey; his son, Anthony “Tony” Bilbrey; three sisters, Vechell Keaton Short, Jenene Williams, and Charlotte “Mona” Fox; three brothers, Tracy Bilbrey, Larry Bilbrey, and David Bilbrey; brothers-in-law, Bill Wise, Ronnie Martin, Bill Martin and sister-in-law, Debbie Martin.
Per Hubert’s request, a simple cremation will take place with burial at South Mound Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 16th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the American Legion Post #216 Middletown, Indiana.
