Imogene Davis

Imogene D. Davis, 90, of Knightstown, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. She was born May 6, 1918 in Tiny, Virginia the daughter of Fitzhugh Lee and Emma (Counts) Sutherland.

She had been employed at Burma Manufacturing in Greenfield, Country Kitchen in Knightstown and Corner Bakery in Knightstown for many years. She was a member of Curves and Faith Chapel Independent Baptist Church in Knightstown. She was known for sending cards to many people and enjoyed giving out her homemade jams and jellies. She was a prayer warrior and people called her to be prayed for. She also loved bluegrass music.

Imogene is survived by five children: Raymond (wife: Eveline) Compton of Fairfax, VA; Evelyn (husband: Norman) Peyton of Anderson; Denny (wife: Carol) Davis of New Castle; Eva (husband: Larry) Griffey of Knightstown; and Danny Joe Davis of Knightstown; eight grandchildren: Brian Compton, Stephanie Johnson, Markus Compton, Kelly Hall, Dana Stensrud, Mickey Griffey, Brandon Davis, Elizabeth Davis; fourteen great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Norma Sutherland, Jill Sutherland and Nell Davis; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Howard E. Davis in 1992; two sisters: Dorothy Arrington, Ethel Hughes; four brothers: Guy, Kermit, Edsel and Bernard Sutherland.

Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 17, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday prior to service. Memorial contributions may be made to Crohns & Colitis Research of America and Cancer Research of America with envelopes available at the funeral home.
