Ina Opal Raines

August 16, 1925 — January 30, 2023

Ina Opal (Lovelace) Raines, 97, a resident at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center, passed away peacefully Monday, January 30, 2023. She was born on August 16, 1925 in Waynesboro, Kentucky, the daughter of Edward and Stella (Heath) Lovelace.

Ina loved the Lord, was a prayer warrior and made sure the first check she wrote each month was her tithe. She was a longtime member of First Bible Free Will Baptist Church, where she was known as “Miss Opal”.

She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Miss Opal enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning. During the summer, there was a colorful array of flowers on her porch and her front and back yard, which included over 60 red rose bushes, each of which she had started from a stem.

Miss Opal looked forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas, when all her family gathered in her small home. She did her Christmas shopping from the numerous catalogs she received and usually had her shopping done by April. She always bought a few “extras” just in case family members brought a friend. She believed that everyone present should receive a gift.

Miss Opal is survived by her daughters: Beverly (Bill) Imel and Stella Brockman, both of New Castle and a son, Earl Dewayne (Phyllis) Raines of New Castle, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandson, a sister-in-law, Frances Thomas of Troy, Ohio and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father Carl Thomas, her husband, Earl M. Raines, grandson Kenny Caudill, great granddaughter, Victoria Caudill and seven siblings: Thelma (Lovelace) Yocum, Bobby Lovelace, Joe Thomas, Ted Thomas, Tony Thomas, Dick Thomas and Alma (Thomas) Baker.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Alan Boles officiating. Burial will follow in Batson Cemetery, east of New Castle. Visitation will be from 12:00 until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
