Iva Lukens Chew, 97, of Knightstown went to be with the Lord Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield following a brief illness. She was born September 4, 1911 in Spiceland, a daughter of the late William and Lilly (Magee) Warrick.
Iva had worked for the Rushville Social Services Department caring for children. She had attended Carthage Methodist Church for many years, where she was a nursery teacher for 15 years. Iva was presently a member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include seven children: Barbara (husband: Virgil) McKee of Columbus, Ohio, Jim (wife: Rita) Lukens of Knightstown, Gloria Thorpe of Eaton, Ohio; Mary Lou (husband: Sam) Gray of Carthage; Donna Kay (husband: John) Gaither of New Castle, Linda (husband: Ronald) Gatewood of Warrenton, Virginia and Lori Chew of Kennard; daughter-in-law: Charlotte Lukens of New Castle; 25 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; and 11 step great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband: Maurice Lukens of 53 years; her second husband: George Chew of 1.5 years; daughter: Candi Lukens; son: Phillip Lukens; two granddaughters: Marcie Lukens & Pam Thorpe Moore; two great great granddaughters: Cora Beth and Josie Danielle Cole; three sisters: Edna Shepherd; Jenny Ingram; and Mary Baker; one brother: Melvin Warrick; son-in-laws: Jack Lynch and James Chew.
Services will be 10:00a.m.Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastors Roger Campbell and Kenneth Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the funeral home.
