Jacob J. “Jake” Johnson passed away unexpectedly on October 11 at his residence in Oakville. He was 43 years old.
Jake was born on January 30, 1982, to Jerry and Stephanie Johnson of Alexandria. He attended St. Mary School and graduated from Alexandria-Monroe High School in 2001. After graduating, he served his community as a volunteer fireman.
A talented rider from an early age, Jake was a decorated western horseman through 10 years of 4-H and in many equestrian shows. He was a skilled welder, mechanic, and all-around handy guy. Much of his career was spent as a heavy equipment operator for various utility and road construction projects. He was a proud member of both the Laborers Local 1112 and the Operators Local 103 unions.
In his free time, Jake enjoyed hunting, working on projects, and being outdoors. He especially loved his Jeeps, jet skis, and spending time out on the water. He also had a soft spot for his dogs—especially his pitty, Beau—who was always by his side. Above all, Jake cherished every moment with his family. Memories of his big heart and goofy sense of humor will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
Jake was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents: Mary Lou (Ralph) Flecker and Bob (Rusty) Johnson and his father, Jerry Johnson (2003).
He is survived by his wife, Heather (Smith) Johnson of Oakville; his three daughters, Jenna (16), Jessa (14), and Jazmyne (13) Johnson, all of Summitville; his mother, Stephanie Johnson of Alexandria; his mother-in-law: Terri Smith of Oakville along with aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson Daughters College Fund to honor Jake’s memory and support his greatest pride and joy—his girls. Details for donations will be available through the family and at the funeral home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Oakville First Brethren Church with Pastor Jeremy Bousman officiating. Family and friends are invited to come share memories and honor Jake’s life between 4 and 5pm Wednesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
