James Arthur Griffin

James Arthur “Jim” Griffin, 80, formerly of New Castle passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Maple Park Village in Westfield. He was born September 6, 1944 in New Castle to the late Willie and Stella (Booher) Griffin.

Jim was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He served during the Vietnam war where he received two Purple Heart Awards for his bravery. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association and served with the Marine Honor Guard, helping perform many military graveside rites. Jim was also an active participant in the “Toys for Tots” program. A skilled mechanic, he enjoyed working on vehicles. One of his favorite restaurants was the Waffle House which he visited frequently. Jim loved talking with others and never met a stranger. His greatest joy was visiting and spending time with family and friends.

Jim is survived by his siblings; Elsie Peyton of Texas, Larry (Patty) Griffin of Vancouver, Washington, Marilyn Grider of Florida, Martha Bivens of New Castle and Cynthia Lacy of Middletown; several nieces, nephews and close friends along with a good friend and caregiver, Justin (Tisha) and Maddie Carter of Anderson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Frances Krakovitz, Will C. Griffin, Helen Dumford, Marty Griffin and Ada Griffin.
