James O. “Jake” Pasman, 90, of New Castle passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 10, 1935 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Leo and Lillian (Young) Pasman.
Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, Jake led a life defined by dedication to his community, his career, and his family. After earning his Master’s Degree at Ball State University, where he met the love of his life, Nancy Stoots, he embarked on a long career as a math teacher before eventually serving as the athletic director at New Castle Middle School. Jake became a fixture at the New Castle Fieldhouse, where he was so constantly present at sporting events that the Courier Times described him as "ubiquitous", a reputation that ultimately earned him an induction into the New Castle Trojan Hall of Fame.
Beyond his professional achievements, he was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church, never letting his health prevent him from engaging in Sunday worship, whether in person or via live stream. In his private moments, Jake cherished time with his grandchildren, enjoyed the Reds games on the radio, and maintained a morning routine of walking at the Fieldhouse. Known for his warm sense of humor, he joked about his expertise in "parking lot appreciation" while waiting in the car for Nancy during her shopping trips, a testament to the enduring and loving partnership they shared.
He is survived by his children, Christy (Charles) Osborne and Kevin Pasman; grandchildren, Stacie (George) Takahashi and Corey (Adrienne) Pasman; brother-in-law, Larry “Chick” (Kathy) Stoots; a sister-in-law, Cathy Davenport and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lee (Stoots) Pasman; a sister, Dutch Wiley and brothers-in-law, Jerry “Butch” Stoots and Marvin “Dale” Stoots.
