Janet Louise (Mercer) Copeland, 98, passed away in Franklin, Indiana on November 22, 2021. She was born on September 10, 1923, in Spiceland, Indiana to the late Clyde and Irene (Pickering) Mercer.
Janet and Max lived in Winchester, Indiana, for a number of years where she often assisted her husband in his dental office.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy (Richard) Young of Greenwood and Mary (David) Alber of Indianapolis; 6 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Dr. Max E. Copeland and her sister, Beverly Jean Catt.
Janet and her husband spent many winters in the FortMyers/Sanibel Island area. She was very creative and enjoyed writing poetry for family and friends. At Christmas and birthdays, she would often do treasure hunts for her grandchildren that would lead them to a special gift. Singing songs while rocking grandbabies was a favorite of hers.
Janet was the oldest member of Spiceland Friends Church and the oldest alumnus of Spiceland Academy.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2021 at Spiceland Friends Church in Spiceland with David Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spiceland Friends Church, 401 West Main Street, Spiceland, IN 47385.
