Janie Wilma Katherine Deaton

Janie Wilma Katherine Deaton, 81, of Mooreland, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She was born on April 14, 1945, a daughter of the late Orville and Mary Ola (Rollins) Privett.

Janie was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished and loved her family dearly. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially working with her flowers and caring for her yard. When her children were younger, Janie enjoyed camping with her husband, Paul, and creating special memories with her family.

She had many interests and hobbies that brought her joy throughout her life. Janie loved birdwatching, watching wrestling, reading, working puzzles, and crocheting. She was also a talented and creative woman who managed Orange Blossom Ceramics in Muncie, where she shared her talents by teaching ceramic classes to others.

Janie is survived by her children, Tamala Maynard, Barbara Nelson and Bradley (Shelly) Maynard; special niece, Misty Daily; grandchildren, Charity Shelton Upchurch, Kylie Maynard, Alexandra Adams, Tessa Nelson, Jordan Jessee and Blake Maynard; Janie has many great-grandchildren that she loved dearly but was especially close to the two that resided with her, Raeden and Aurora Upchurch; sister, Etta Taylor.

In addition to her parents, Janie was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of their children, Thomas Maynard; second husband, Paul Deaton; siblings, Nova Edmonds, June Wiley, Dorman Privett, Denzel “Sonny” Privett, Gloria “Jo” Ridenour, Ed Privett, Omer Privett and Robert Privett.

In keeping with Janie’s wishes, A simple cremation will take place with no public services.

Janie’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the medical and nursing staff at IU Ball Memorial Hospital for all the wonderful care received over the last several days.
