Jerry Lee Garner

Jerry Lee Garner, 68, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Greenfield, due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident this past July. He was born July 13, 1955 in Albany, KY, a son of the late Odell and Opal (Cross) Garner.
A man who never met a stranger, lovingly known as the “family social bug”, Jerry faithfully made his rounds of calls to family and friends. A Teddy Bear with a big heart, he loved his family, AKA his “village”, and enjoyed traveling, boating at Dale Hollow, and spending time at the “Little House” in Burkesville, KY. He enjoyed watching the boys play baseball, serving as the driver for any trip that sprang up, and loved cooking for the family, especially during the holidays.
A hard-worker, Jerry and his wife owned and operated Jerry’s Parkview Marathon in New Castle for many years. He then worked for the Henry County Highway Department, at which he was still employed. He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge in New Castle, where he had served as Governor and earned status of Pilgrim. He was also a longtime member of the Eagles Lodge in New Castle.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 51 years, Sheila Garner of New Castle; two daughters, Lori (Brian) Matthews of New Castle, and Tonya Cole (Chris McCartt) of New Castle; three grandchildren, Taylor (Matty) Matthews of Indianapolis, Tori (Gage) Mann of New Castle, and Jaxon “Little Buddy” Cole of New Castle; a brother, Jeff (Tammy) Garner of New Castle; uncle, Billy Frank Garner, a sister-in-law, Lisa Denney of Morristown; several cousins to whom he was very close, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ted, James, and Cecil Garner; in laws, Duston and Wanda Denney, and a sister-in-law, Peggy Young.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
