Jerry Daniel Sexton, born August 9, 1952, in New Castle, Indiana, passed away in Grove, Oklahoma on March 24th, where he had lived for many years. Jerry’s life was shaped by resilience, independence, and a quiet strength that carried him through every season of his journey.
Born to the late Fred D. Sexton and Lillian (Branham) Brunson, Jerry grew up with the values of hard work and determination. School never felt like the right place for him, and in April of 1970 he chose a different path—enlisting in the United States Army. He served honorably until March of 1974, including a tour in Vietnam. Like many veterans, Jerry faced challenges adjusting to civilian life, but he met them with grit and perseverance. He was also a proud member of the VFW for 20 years.
After his service, Jerry worked across several states and mastered a wide range of trades. He built a life with his own hands—working as a carpenter, plumber, electrician, and restaurant manager. His skills, adaptability, and strong work ethic became hallmarks of who he was.
Jerry eventually settled in Grove, Oklahoma, the place he would call home for the rest of his life. There, he found joy in the things that brought him peace and purpose. He loved making furniture and hanging out with the guys at the muffler shop. He especially loved fishing—quiet mornings on the water, where he found the calm he deserved.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Fred D. Sexton; his maternal grandparents, Charles Branham and Ollie (Dixon) Branham; his paternal grandparents, Jerry Sexton and Ethel Sexton; twin brother Jackie (at birth); brother Fred; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his mother, Lillian Brunson of New Castle; his brother Bill Sexton and wife Jackie of Grove, Oklahoma; his daughter Kelly of Virginia; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory forward.
Jerry’s life was not always easy, but it was honest, hardworking, and uniquely his own. He will be remembered for his service, his craftsmanship, and the steady, capable way he moved through the world.
Services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery Legion Square edition.
