Jewell E. Sell

Jewell E. Sell, 90, of New Castle, went to be with her heavenly family Thursday, August 11, 2016. She was born on March 26, 1926 in Clinton County, KY, a daughter of the late John and Flora (Vaughn) Martin.

Jewel moved to New Castle, from Hegira Ridge, with her late husband and son, Troy in the late 1940’s. It was here they would make a home on North 27th street; Jewell still called this place home. Marvin would go to work at the rolling mill and Jewell would hold many positions, but her most prideful was working as kitchen staff at Heritage House nursing home where she would retire in the late 80’s. She genuinely adored the residents and would often be seen going out of her way to make them smile.

She and her husband were members of the Foursquare Gospel Church and attended faithfully for over 60 years. She loved planting, tending, harvesting, and canning her abundantly fruitful garden; she kept Ball Brother’s in business. Jewell loved spending time with her family and laboring over a hot stove to prepare meals and her famous chocolate pie for them. She had a kind soul and a warm smile and made sure to say “I love you” as you headed out the door. Jewell and Marvin had a standing date of their ongoing game of dominoes every night at their kitchen table. She enjoyed quilting and she recently continued that tradition with her son Jeff. There are many fond memories and countless stories that now belong to those who loved her most and her generous spirit will live on through them.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Sell (partner: Shauna Felton) of New Castle; grandchildren, Marty Sell, Matt Sell (wife: Jennifer), and Shawna Sell (partner: Kevin Serey) and several cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Marvin W. Sell and sons, Troy and Ronnie Sell; parents, John and Flora (Vaughn) Martin of Albany, KY; brother, Chester Martin and sisters, Stella Martin, Minnie Bell Owens, Bessie Gossage, and Christella Allen.

We are comforted knowing Jewell finally showed up for her domino date with Marvin.

Services will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday August 16, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jim Becker officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 4:00PM- 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association 50 E. 91st, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209.
