Joe Whitesitt, 74, of Knightstown passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Henry Community Health following a lengthy illness. He was born April 26, 1951 in Richmond, the son of George Alexander and Martha (Joyce) Whitesitt.
Joe was a 1969 graduate of Knightstown High School, worked for General Motors Guide Lamp for 34 years, then at IAF for 8 years. He also farmed for several years. Joe was a well rounded athlete starting with the Mays basketball team his freshman year, and then started on the 1st football team at Knightstown High School. He also was active in baseball, track and shot put. He was a fan of IU Basketball and Bob Knight enthusiast. He was a diehard Yankees fan and also loved going to the Great American Ball Park to support a local favorite, the Cincinnati Reds. For several years Joe coached softball and collected baseball cards. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed woodworking and loved making things. Joe was a devout Christian and a member of Center Christian Church, a Disciple of Christ he directed people to Center Christian Church and was proud to be a part of the Church’s “Holy Hoosiers Club” humorously declared by Joe and Darryl.
A very blunt communicator, Joe was fun loving and outgoing. He was a devoted husband and father. Joe worked extremely hard to provide for his family. He was very giving and generous. In his natural selfless way, Joe gave a kidney to his wife, Deborah, which gave her another 25 years of life which we are very grateful for.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Heather (James) Pearson, Kathy (Courtney) Houston and Bart Whitesitt; grandchildren, Morgan Pearson, Josie and Shelby Hockett; brother-in-law, John Sinischo; several nieces and nephews; and he took on the dad role for many others.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Deborah Whitesitt, just shy of 6 months; siblings, Joyce Sinischo and Jim Whitesitt.
Services will be at 3:00 PM Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Center Christian Church with Darryl Denney officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
