Joseph G. Burris III, 66, of New Castle passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025 at his residence. He was born April 24, 1959 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Joseph G. Jr. and Linda “Jill” (Wainscott) Burris.
Affectionately called Jay by his family and Joe by his friends, he will be missed by all. Joe was a 1977 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler Memorial High School then later attended Indiana University and Ball State University. He moved to Georgia and while living there, worked for a recording studio for many years. Jay was an avid IU sports fan and attended many different sporting events every year. He was an also avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, attending many opening days for several years. Jay loved music, history, cooking, baking, and working with computers and electronics. In 1977, he was proud to attend the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter.
He is survived by his sister, Diane (Brock) Coffman of Lewisville; a nephew, Brice (Aubrey) Coffman; a niece, Bailey Jo (Cayden) Starkey; great nieces, Collins and Ember Coffman and Charlotte Starkey and a great nephew, Hayze Coffman and several cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery.
