Joseph Harold “Joe” Nickol, 74, a resident of Blountsville, Indiana passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023 at his home. He was born June 3, 1948 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Joseph Albert Nickol and Margaret (Wilson) Beatty.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Viet Nam War in Germany, Korea and Colorado. Joe had also resided in California, Florida and Pennsylvania before moving to Indiana. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge as well as the VFW and American Legion. Joe was affiliated with the Blountsville Christian Church and drove for the Amish.
An avid fisherman, Joe was a tournament director for the Florida Bass Federation for several years. He was instrumental in starting a Bass Tournament for disabled veterans for over ten years. Joe enjoyed making his own bait and was a fishing guide for the CSX Railroad.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years: Jeanni (Hockenberry) Nickol, whom he married August 25, 1989; three children: Michelle Reed of Tennessee, Candi (Matthew) Myers of Pennsylvania and Brian (Jennifer) Hodson of Texas; a step-son: Courtney Black of Louisiana; three grandchildren: Travis (Courtney) Reed, Haley Myers and Skylar Hodson; two great-grandsons: Garrison and Harrison “Harry” Reed; two sisters: Rita (Randy) Wormer of Blountsville and Linda Wright of Tennessee; a brother: Jimmy (Diana) Nickol of Muncie, Indiana; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Robbie Rowland.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle, Indiana with Tracy Cole officiating.
