Joyce Ellen Murphy

Joyce Ellen Murphy, 86, of Springport passed away on Sunday May 24, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 25, 1939, in Keno, KY to the late Newell Glen and Lelia (Wilson) Lee.

She was a former member of Memorial Baptist Church in Muncie for over 60 years, where she had taught Sunday school. Joyce was currently a member of Westside United Baptist Church in Muncie. She enjoyed gardening, canning and shopping. Her greatest joy was being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her children, Kim Wilson of Albany, KY, Kay (Mark) Collins of Muncie, Audie Murphy of Springport and Alan (Tina) Murphy of Greencastle; grandchildren, Amanda (Brent) Waters, Matt (Katie) Collins and Sierra (Brantley) Armour; great grandchildren, Amber, Kayleah, Dawson, Luke, Lizzie and Lincoln; sister, Inus (Avery) Perry and Rebecca (Rudy) Abbott; brother, Marshall (Susanne) Lee; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Hab” Murphy; infant son, Leonard Howard Murphy Jr.; brothers, Glen Lee, Bill Lee, Dave Lee, Eugene Lee and Harold Lee; sisters, Doris Faye Lee, Iva Branscum, Mary Granada, and Virginia Weaver; son-in-law, Mike Wilson.

Service will be at 10:00 am on Thursday May 28, 2026, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Larry Waters officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be Wednesday May 27, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
