Katherine Mae Lewellen

Katherine Mae “Kate” Lewellen, 94, of Rushville and formerly of New Lisbon, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born July 29, 1929 in Morehead, KY to the late Norman and Thelma Lucille (Johnson) Lewis.

She retried from Wilbur Wright School where she worked in the cafeteria for many years. She also drove a truck for Lewellen Trucking and Diamond Containers. Kate was a huge Indianapolis Colts fan and animal lover, especially her dogs and parrot. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and bowling. More than anything, she loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include a daughter: Yvonne (Mark) Glenn of Rushville; grandchildren: Amiee Blevins (Clay Christal), Angel (Jeffrey “Homie”) Wilkerson, Nick (Alexis) Adams, Brandon Adams, Arika (Kenny) Burke, Katrina Lee (Jake Burke), Tyler Steele, Dylan (Allison) Steele; great-grandchildren: Kodye Blaylock, Tynsley Christal, Mekayla Hammonds, Austin Hammonds, Dillon Wilkerson and Leland Lee; great-great-grandchildren: Rayne Miller, Eliza Miller, Weston Adams, Lanvis and Evander; nieces: Mary and Lauren Sullivan; nephew: Jack (Kristi) Bevans; son-in-law: Virgil Steele.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Marvin Edward “Curly” Lewellen; daughter: Greta Mae Steele; sister: Ruth Sullivan and an infant brother,

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Fran Bullock officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery.
