Larry Gene Bowlin

Larry Gene Bowlin, 81 of Lewisville passed away Wednesday, January 7 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. Larry was born April 18, 1944 in Highway, Kentucky, the son of the late Thomas Paul and Hettie V. (Vincent) Bowlin.

Larry was a 1962 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School. On August 30, 1963, Larry married the love of his life, Dorothy, together they shared 62 years of marriage. Larry retired from New Castle Stainless Plate in 2005 after 40 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 729. Larry was a self-taught musician who could play any stringed instrument he picked up. He gave guitar, banjo, mandolin and dobro lessons to many students. He played in many bands including his own. Larry always had a beautiful garden and found great pleasure providing vegetables for his family and friends. He adored his great grandchildren and loved giving them golf cart rides.

In addition to his wife, those left to cherish his memory include his two children, Bruce (Annie) Bowlin of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee and Julia (Brian) Hoffman of Lewisville; his grandchildren, Melinda Baker, Joseph (Rebecca) Hoffman, and Bryce (Jordyn) Hoffman; his great grandchildren, Shaylee Adkins whom he was raising, Levi Adkins, Aliyah Hoffman, Ryder Hoffman, and Evelynn Hoffman; a sister, Christine Helsley, several nieces and nephews and Cory Gulley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Hoffman; grandson, Joshua Bowlin; great grandson, Timothy Joseph Hoffman; brother, Rick Bowlin and brother-in-law, Earl Helsley.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Gary Poe officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lewisville Cemetery.
