Larry Vaughn Dodson, 73, of New Castle, passed away on August 21, 2025. He was born on April 4, 1952, in Anderson, to the late Vaughn Dodson and Nylah (McNeal) Vanmeter.
Larry's journey began in Anderson, Indiana, where he graduated from Anderson High School in 1972. With a strong foundation of education, he would go on to become a person of great reliability and care, embodying the traits that defined him throughout his life.
Known for his stubborn dedication and thoughtful nature, Larry made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. He had a vibrant personality that drew others to him. His love for ghost stories and the captivating narratives explored in the television show Ghost Adventures provided him with hours of entertainment and delight. He was particularly captivated by the ever-thrilling world of NASCAR, where Dale Earnhardt Jr. held a special place in his heart. His passion for the sport led him to collect memorabilia that would reflect his fierce admiration.
Throughout his life, Larry cherished family above all else, especially relishing the time spent with his beloved grandchildren. His warmth and affection for them were evident in every interaction, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Larry was also a devoted member of the Spiceland Nazarene Church in recent years, where he found comfort and community among fellow congregants.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Scott (Jessica) Dodson; grandchildren, Marcus Dodson, Mallory Dodson, Cody White, and Brooklyn Wiseman; fiancé, Mary Schuyler; siblings, Bob (Pat) Dodson, Penny Hulett (Luke Gehlhausen), and Debbie Deweese (Mark Baker); step children, Frank (Amber) Schuyler, Brian (Julie) Schuyler, and Donna (Robert) Moore; 15 step grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by children, Sarah Dodson and Tim Dodson; stepson, David Wiseman; brother, Jeff Vanmeter; previous wife, Linda Dodson; and stepfather, James Vanmeter.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Cremation will take place at Hinsey Brown. You can express condolences or share a memory of Larry at www.hinsey-brown.com.
