Larry Griffey, 80, of Greenfield, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025. He was born on September 2, 1945, in Dayhoit, KY, to the late Leeman and Lucille (Williams) Griffey.
Larry was known for his godly spirit and generous heart and lived a life devoted to his faith and his family.
Larry firmly believed in the power of love, compassion, and generosity. He touched the lives of many, always lending a hand to those in need, whether it was his neighbors or to his beloved church community.
An avid traveler, Larry enjoyed exploring new places with his loving wife, Eva. Together, they created countless memories that will be treasured by their family. He was active and committed to his health, walking four miles every day, and would even enjoy a game of pickleball with his family.
Larry’s interests were as vibrant as his personality. He was particularly fond of the '50s and '60s music era, shared his passion for singing as the song leader at church, and could often be heard joyfully whistling. He enjoyed classic cars and attending car shows, in hopes he would see his favorite classic car, a 1956 Ford Crown Victoria.
Family was the cornerstone of Larry’s life. He found great joy in watching his grandchildren play sports and enjoyed creating moments of connection through games and activities. He was exceptionally skilled in woodworking, crafting special toy boxes and gun cases that will serve as cherished keepsakes for his grandchildren. Larry and Eva were known for hosting the best fall parties, complete with hayrides and weenie roasts that brought friends and family together.
Larry not only enjoyed yard work—taking particular care in making his surroundings beautiful—but also loved relaxing while watching game shows and enjoying classic westerns, especially those starring the ever-legendary Gene Autry. He was active, playful, and above all, deeply caring.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 52 years, Eva Davis Griffey; children, Mickey (Gail) Griffey, Bobby Griffey, and Deanna (Brian) Johnson; grandchildren, Ethan Griffey, Connor Griffey, BJ Griffey, Alicia Griffey, Evan Griffey, Justin Sherrick, and Allison Hisey; special grandson, Luke Owens; sisters, Sandy Hensley and Brenda Graham; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his siblings, Gene, Charlie, and Glenda; father and mother-in-law, Howard and Imogene Davis; and half-brother-in-law, Raymond Compton.
