Larry J Houser, 87, New Castle, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 2, 1939 in Mooreland, a son of the late Raymond Eugene and Wilma (Vores) Houser.
A 1957 graduate of Mooreland High School, Larry worked at Dana Corp. before serving in the U.S. Navy. When he returned from the Navy, he went back to work at Dana Corporation, from where he retired after many years of service.
He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, working in his yard, and watching sports, especially IU basketball and Chicago Cubs. Always willing to help others in need, he was known for lending a hand to others. Above all, he loved his family, especially his granddaughter, Michaela.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 61 years, Mildred (Pitts) Houser of New Castle, whom he married May 28, 1965; two daughters, Julie (Ron) Petry of New Castle and Lee Ann Houser of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Mandy Petry of New Castle, Justin (Lauren) Petry of Winchester, Michaela Petry (Alex Nunn) of New Castle, and Savannah Richard of New Castle; great grandchildren, Lilly Ertel, Lynnlea Ertel, and Malcolm Petry, all of Winchester, Evani Richard of New Castle; two sisters, Kay (Gleason) Nicholas of New Castle and Elaine Mathews of New Castle; sister in law, Pat Houser-Tuggle of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Houser and Stephen Houser; and a sister, Delores Blevins.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Timothy Wishert officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. noon until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com.
