Larry Gene "Jaws" Lye

Larry Gene “Jaws” Lye, 79, a resident of New Castle passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born April 30, 1947 in New Castle to the late Marvin and Carolyn (Holaday) Lye.

A 1965 graduate of Chrysler High School, Larry retired from Delphi division of General Motors, Anderson in December, 1999 after 34 years of service. Among his hobbies, planting flowers was among his favorites. Larry loved his dogs who have passed; Dolly, Daisy and Precious along with his present puppy, Angel.

Larry was an avid golfer and enjoyed attending auto races. He and his wife, Phyllis made several trips to Gatlinburg and to visit family in North Carolina. He was an avid sports enthusiast and always cheered on his IU golf, basketball and football teams.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Holaday) Lye, whom he married June 11, 1966; a sister: Mary (Tony) Nicholson of New Castle and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by two sisters, Sheila Lye and Debbie Thompson.

Services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Steve Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Tuesday.
