Leva Jane Riley

Leva Jane Riley, a beloved fixture in the Shirley community, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2025, at the age of 90. Leva’s was born on December 31, 1934 in Russell Springs, KY, the daughter of the late Rufus Miller and Sissie “Stephens” Miller.

Leva dedicated over 50 years of her life working at Edwards Cleaners in Greenfield, where her strong work ethic and warm demeanor endeared her to many.

Leva was not just a remarkable lady but also a pillar of strength and love in the lives of her family and friends. Her unwavering faith guided her through life’s challenges, and she was known for her resilience and determination. A longtime member of the Shirley Gospel Mission Church, Leva's faith was the cornerstone of her existence, nurturing her and those around her.

Outside of her work, Leva cherished the simple pleasures of life. She was a talented quilter, spending countless hours creating beautiful pieces that would warm the hearts and homes of her loved ones. Her love for canning and cooking turned every meal into a feast filled with warmth and hospitality, ensuring that no one left her table without a full stomach and a happy heart. Her passion for gardening brought her immense joy, as she spent many afternoons tending to her plants and watching them thrive.

Family was at the center of Leva's universe. She found immense joy in shopping and hunting for bargains, often sharing these treasures with her loved ones. Leva's heart would light up during her trips back to Kentucky to visit family, where she forged memories that would last a lifetime. There was something about sitting in her kitchen, gazing out the window while engaging in heartfelt conversations over the phone.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her grandchildren: Amanda (Doug) O’Rear, Melissa (Tony) Atkins, Steve Riley, Michael Riley and Adam Riley; great grandchildren: Katie Riley, Brooklyn Atkins, Brilynn Atkins, Emily Riley and Adam “Jr” Riley; two great great grandchildren: daughter-in-law Linda Riley; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ora Riley; sons, Michael Riley and Roby Riley; daughter-in-law: Jeannine Riley: all of her siblings.

Services will be at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Charlie Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation will be from 11:00 to the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the JT Hatfield Church Camp, 137 N 850 E, Greenfield, IN 46140.
