Lillian Lenore Rader

Lillian Lenore Rader, 95, of Mooreland, passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Lillian was a kind and generous woman who gave her heart and soul to God, her family, and the community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne Rader; her sister, Betty Smith; and her parents, Ivan and Bessie Maddox.

She is survived by her five children, Vicky (Randy), Ivan (Julie), Jeff (Cathy), Ken, and Larry. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.

Lillian was born and grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and was an accomplished first-chair Violinist in her high school orchestra. She was a graduate of Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis. Lillian and Robert met at a dance one night in Kansas City. Robert was in Kansas City as part of his electronics training. They dated, fell in love and were married in November 1949. They were married for 74 years. They started their lives together in Kansas where they lived for a few years. Lillian worked at Hallmark headquarters in Kansas City while Robert completed his training. In 1953, Lillian and Robert moved to the Rader family farm in Mooreland, Indiana where they started a business in New Castle, IN, ‘Bob’s Radio and Television’. Later, in 1957 the family sold the business as Robert accepted a job at WTHR, Channel 13, and relocated the family to Indianapolis. The family relocated to the Rossville, Indiana area in 1973 as Robert accepted a job at Purdue University. In 1974 relocated back to the family farm in Mooreland, Indiana, as Robert accepted a job at Ball State University. Lillian was a Librarian for many years at Henry County Public Library in New Castle. She provided her wonderful narration voice for children’s tapes and live story time.

Following retirement, both were active volunteers at the Wilbur Wright Birthplace Museum. She was a very active lifelong member of First Christian Church of Mooreland and served for many

years as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the CWU, Christian Women United. Lillian and Robert spent the next few years traveling and enjoying their farm. Lillian had a long life, well-loved and lived. She left the world a better place, a goal for which we all strive.

Visitation will be from 11:00am until time of service on Monday. Services will be 1:00pm Monday, August 17, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Nathan Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church of Mooreland.
