Lois Marie Fairchild

April 22, 1955 — March 20, 2026

New Castle

Lois Marie Fairchild, 70, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 20, 2026, at her residence. Lois was born on April 22, 1955, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, a daughter of Jerome George Hemauer and Dorothy Jane (Kobriger) Hemauer.

Known to many by her nickname “Battle”, to the contrary Lois had a contagious smile and never met a stranger. Even through her many health challenges over the years, she maintained a warm spirit and a joyful outlook on life and remained a jokester at heart and loved bringing laughter to those around her.

Lois cherished her family deeply, especially her daughters and grandchildren, who were always the highlight of her conversations. Of course, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.

Lois found great joy in attending her grandchildren’s school events and making lasting memories with her family. She loved traveling to the mountains of Tennessee, dining at Welliver’s Restaurant, many pets over the years. Christmas was her favorite time of year, she especially enjoyed driving around with her children for hours, admiring Christmas lights, honking, and joyfully calling out, “Pretty lights!” to the displays they loved most.

Lois graduated from New Castle Chrysler High School in 1973 and in that same year married her high school sweetheart, Michael Fairchild. Lois dedicated 37 years of service to Marsh Supermarkets, where she worked in many departments and built lasting friendships and performed many shenanigans over the years. Following her retirement, she continued her caring nature by providing home healthcare for ten years.

In her quieter moments, Lois enjoyed reading, baking, and taking Sunday afternoon drives with the windows down while listening to music on 104.1.

In addition to her mother, Lois is survived by her husband of 52 years, Michael Fairchild of New Castle; children, Jessica (Sean) Dice of Greenfield and Angela (Josh) Magiera of Straughn; grandchildren, Bryson Ference of Greenfield, Sophie and Kase Magiera both of Straughn; siblings, Linda (Thomas) Felton of Leesburg, FL, Dr. Bonnie Hemauer of Santa Monica, CA, Carol Hemauer of Tucson, AZ, Ann Elizabeth of Sierra Vista, AZ, Sarah Guvenen of Sierra Vista, AZ and Keith Hemauer of Salisbury, MD; sister-in-law, Jackie Wright of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Lois was preceded in death by her brothers, Douglas and Mark Hemauer; brother-in-law, Steve Wright.

Lois wanted to share her favorite quote to live by: “It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday”

At the family’s request there will be no public service for Lois and a simple cremation has been arranged and entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. You may express condolences or share memories of Lois at www.hinsey-brown.com
