Luella Chesher

Luella “Lue” Chesher, 72, of New Castle passed away Monday, February 23, 2026 at IU Health Methodist Hospital. She was born September 12, 1953 in Monticello, Kentucky to the late Obie Frances and Ermie Louise (Criswell) Bell.

Lue was the heart of every gathering—a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a devoted grandmother, a loving sister, and a steadfast friend—whose warmth radiated through her cooking (which she loved teaching), her open‑handed help, and her endless patience. For more than two decades she served in the control room at the New Castle Correctional Facility. When she wasn’t at work, you could find her camping, fishing, or tending to her yard and flowers; yet the greatest joy she ever expressed was simply being with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren, whose laughter and love filled her days with purpose and peace.

Lue is survived by her husband of 56 years, John E. Chesher; children, Scott E. (Kathy) Chesher, Rebecca L. (Danny) Simerly, Tamara “Tammy” Chesher and Courtney (Chris) Remy; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; siblings, Mary Jane Dewitt, Lorrine Bell, Scott (Nikki) Bell, Mark (Janet) Bell, Alvin and Mack Bell and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Cory Hawkins; sister, Deloris Ann Bell; brother-in-law, Roger Curnutt and several others that are awaiting her arrival to Heaven.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Frank Wood Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.
