Margaret "Peggy" Henderson

Margaret “Peggy” Henderson, a beloved member of the Greenfield and New Castle community’s, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the age of 92 at the Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. Born on November 13, 1931, in Anderson, Indiana, Peggy was the daughter of the late Wallace and Ida (Miller) Phelps.

After dedicating 34 years of service, Peggy retired from Delco Remy in 1984, at the age of 52. A vibrant soul, Peggy cherished the color lavender, had a passion for farming alongside her husband on their farm. She found joy in shopping and socializing, never knowing a stranger and having a joke for any occasion; she was known to always share her unmatched wit and spicy humor when she felt necessary.

She found pleasure fishing and camping especially at their Sycamore Haven property and weighing fish at BASS fishing tournaments. Peggy relished spending time with her grandchildren, and embraced new experiences, including her first plane ride at 80 to Arizona and then California at 85. She also enjoyed road trips, especially with fishing in mind. Peggy adored dogs, collecting little pigs, costume jewelry, indulging in her hobbies of gaming, especially Mario Brothers, various computer games and solving puzzles. During her time at Forest Ridge Senior Living in New Castle, Peggy found happiness and community.

Peggy is survived by her children, Sherre (Steve) Ellis of Fortville, Kenny (Norma Spegal) Henderson of Shirley, Kelly (Joe Adkins) Selke of Greenfield; nine grandchildren, Susan, Mark Matt, Sarah, Meghan, Derek, EmaLeigh, AJ and McKinley; twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Henderson; daughter, Cindy Shelton; son-in-law, Danny Shelton; sister, Patty Ann; brothers, Sonny and Gene.

Services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share memories of Peggy at www.hinsey-brown.com .
