Margie H. Clampitt, 95, of New Castle peacefully passed away Monday, May 18, following a short illness. She was born February 19, 1931 in Lawrence County, Indiana to the late Leston and Ruth (Arthur) Hillenburg.
Margie was a proud 1949 graduate of Oolitic High School, where she faithfully attended annual reunions. She married the love of her life, William “Bill” Clampitt, in 1952. They enjoyed 72 years of being led and blessed by the Lord together, until his death in January of 2025.
Her world centered largely on her family, and she could always be found supporting any activity her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in. She loved her large family and was happiest when her home was filled with the noise and laughter of many children. She especially enjoyed hosting a huge family reunion at her home each July 4th. Margie also loved time in her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She took great delight in canning vegetables for all of the family to share.
As a devoted follower of Jesus, Margie actively attended South Memorial Drive Church of God, serving as a leader of the Karing Keenagers, a Sunday school teacher, church secretary and a member of various boards and committees. She and her husband, Bill, volunteered as youth directors for eighteen years and attended nine international youth conventions. They also traveled with the Indiana South Youth Choir summer tours for 30 years, raising thousands of dollars for Camp Challenge and impacting the lives of hundreds of youth. Bill and Margie also enjoyed traveling around the world, participating in many mission experiences. Her greatest highlight was visiting the Holy Land in Israel.
Margie loved all types of sports. She was a dedicated New Castle Trojan fan and enjoyed following the Indiana Hoosiers and other college and professional teams. She loved spending time at her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s athletic events.
Margie is survived by a son, Scott (Lana) Clampitt of New Castle; 3 daughters, Cheryl (Michael) Betten of New Castle, Annette Clampitt (Ann Kneisly) of Dayton, OH and Lisa (David) Huff of Noblesville; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law D.J. Hillenburg of Wheat Ridge, CO, and many dear nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Gerald “Bud” Hillenburg, Dale “Dedo” Hillenburg, Marie Jeffries and Ruby Vaught.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, May 25 and 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 at South Memorial Drive Church of God. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the church with Pastor Steve Rhoades officiating. Burial will follow at Batson Cemetery.
