Marion Eugene Shore

December 30, 1930 — May 23, 2026

Marion E. "Gene" Shore, a calm, steady and faithful presence for his family, church, business and community, left this life as he lived it. He died peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2026 at the age of 95. He was born in Mooreland on December 30, 1930, a son of Howard and Esther Shore.

A 1949 graduate of Mooreland High School, Marion married his senior classmate, Rosellen Allen on Nov. 20, 1949. They were married more than 73 years and, together, raised a family that included three children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A quiet man with a wry sense of humor, Marion was asked about the secret to such a long marriage. “I always get in the last words,” he said. “Yes ma’am.” Marion’s easy-going nature forged many positive relationships. One of the most special was his work with Dick Culy of Hagerstown. Marion owned Muncie Tool and Die as well as Losantville Tool and Die, with Dick as his right-hand man. When the Losantville facility closed, Marion and Dick were partners again two months later, when they created Magna Machine on Sept. 1, 1975. Under Marion and Dick’s leadership, Magna became ‘the little shop that could", gradually building a customer base far and wide from their off-the-beaten path location amid the cornfields of Henry County.

On June 1, 1993, the company began the process of becoming ISO 9001 certified. This certification is an internationally-recognized standard for quality management systems. Magna became ISO 9001 certified on June 6, 1995. In 2015, Magna was one of the first five companies in the state to receive the "Indiana Quality Improvement Award" that December. That same year Magna was named Business of the Year by New Castle Henry County Chamber of Commerce. With Marion in attendance, the award presentation featured the surprise appearance of many Magna employees coming forward to pay tribute to the company co-founder. The company celebrated its 50th anniversary last fall and Marion was there to join the celebration.

The Mooreland Fair was always a big event for Marion and his wife, Rosellen. They were faithful members of the Mooreland Friends Church for more than seven decades and helped with the famous ham & bean tent each year. Marion and Rosellen were also active in Christian Service International and went on as many as 20 mission trips to Haiti and Jamaica. He loved Blue River Valley basketball games, Cincinnati Reds baseball games and eating breakfast at the Early Bird Diner in downtown New Castle. He, along with Rosellen and other family loved to visit Lake Webster in North Webster, Ind. each summer.

Marion is survived by three children, Melody (Ron) Radford and Marion “Bud” (Linda) Shore, all of New Castle, and Dawn (Michael) Rogers, of Westfield; five grandchildren, Meggan (Josh) Brumbaugh of Fishers; Jillian (Andrew) Fischer, of Noblesville; Dr. Sarah Shore-Beck (Jason) of Noblesville; Katelyn Kaspar (Kevin) of Westfield and Mike Rogers of Westfield; six great-grandchildren Haidyn, Tessa and Cole Brumbaugh; Hudson, Hadley and Holton Beck; and a sister, Helen Scott of Jacksonville, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosellen on Oct. 6, 2023; and two brothers, Don and Carl (“Tut”).

Services will be held Thursday, May 28, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral services will start at 1 p.m. officiated by Brenda Earley. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition.
