Martha Lea York, 75, of Spiceland passed away Monday, June 1, 2026 at Henry Community Health. She was born February 10, 1951 in Monticello, Kentucky to the late Oral and Colene (Asberry) Catron.
Martha had a dedicated career in the restaurant industry as the operator of the Spiceland Family Restaurant and the Wagon Wheel Restaurant, alongside her time managing Friendly Fosters and serving as a compassionate personal caregiver. Beyond her professional life, she possessed a spirited passion for horse racing, notably serving as an owner and trainer at York Stables where she raised Standard-bred horses. Whether she was visiting the casino or engaging in a competitive game of horseshoes, Martha approached life with enthusiasm and a natural ability to connect with others, living by the philosophy that she never met a stranger. A faithful member of Smyrna Baptist Church, she held a special place in her heart for children, but her greatest joy was always found in the company of her family, especially when spending quality time with her beloved grandchildren.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Donna (Kevin) Hiner and Nikki (John) Walters; grandchildren, Cameron (Mary) Hiner, Tosha (Drew) Smith, Megan (Joe) Haase, Brayden (Garrett) Thomas, Brynnlee Walters, Keelan Walters, Erika York and Matthew York; great grandchildren, Ayden, Bronson, Emersyn, Adelyn, Easton, Bryson, Payton, Maddux and McCoy; a brother, Trebby Catron and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dorvin H. York; a son, Jeff York and a grandson, Dylan Hiner.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial will follow at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share a memory of Martha at www.hinsey-brown.com.
