Martin “Marty” L. Griffin, 75, of Anderson passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Beaumont Rehabilitation Center. He was born June 20, 1949 in New Castle to the late Willie and Stella (Booher) Griffin.
Marty attended New Castle High School and graduated from the Mardi Academy then later attended Northern Michigan University earning his Bachelor’s Degree. He graduated from Northern Michigan in 1973 where he was an assistant coach to Glen Brown. Marty also coached Michigan State Head coach, Tom Izzo. He was still working towards his Master’s Degree. He owned and operated his carpet cleaning business for many years. In his earlier years, he was a P.E. teacher at New Castle High School and helped with the boys’ basketball program. Basketball was Marty’s favorite sport and he spent many hours working with his son’s to be the best they could be at this sport. He also coached Baseball, Soccer and many years at the Noblesville Boys/Girls Club. He was a hardworking man who had a competitive side, always wanting to be the best he could. Marty loved NASCAR racing, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He also coached for many years at Wilson’s Boys Club in Anderson.
He is survived by his sons, Traver (Alicia) Griffin and Austin Griffin; grandchildren, Alexa and Trinity Griffin; his former wife, Bonnie Armstrong Griffin, siblings, James “Jim”, Elsie, Larry, Marilyn, Martha and Cynthia and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Frances, Ada, Willie “Will”, and Helen.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Eric Boling officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Martin “Marty” Griffin Memorial Fund to help with funeral expenses (Donate Below).
