Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Riley, 81, of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at StoneBrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. Betty was born on December 19, 1944, in Washington, Indiana, the daughter of the late Donald and Louise (Belcher) LaForce.

Betty adored her great-grandchildren and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed participating in activities with local senior citizen groups and spending time shopping. Betty was active with the Horizon group in Kentucky for seven years and always looked forward to her trips to Kentucky and camping with family and friends. She also enjoyed collecting owls, porcelain dolls, and yellow was her favorite color.

Betty is survived by her children, Kenny Wayne (Stephanie) Criswell, Penny Elizabeth Fultz and Karen Elaine Rains; adoptive daughter, Kathy Clouse; grandchildren, Brandon Wayne ( Shanea) Criswell, Daniel Fultz, Ashley Rae Fultz, Matthew Logan, Dustin Ray (Breanna) Tuite, Shae (Nick) Mays, Mariah Tuite, Chelsey (Joseph) Barrett, Dakota and Harley Clouse, Katelyn and Dylan Galloway; great grandchildren, Branson, Kase, Lance, Isabell, Emery, Brenden, Jack, Maelle, Elijah, Jahmire, Leona, Mosiah, Ari, Emmanuel, Raylin, Addi, Mikalynn, Brayson, and Warren; siblings, Donna, Virginia, Frances, Barbara, Ruth Ann, Donald and Evelyn; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, Kenneth Roy Criswell and Jim Riley; children, David Ray Criswell and Becky Ann Criswell; grandson, Sonny James Criswell; great granddaughters, Megan Lawson and Kenley Marie Criswell; brother, David LaForce and his wife, Tina.

Services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, July 24, 2026 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Bill Palmer officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until the time of service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be given in Betty’s honor to the Henry County Community Foundation.
