Mary Lou Koontz, 94, a lifelong resident of Mooreland passed away Saturday August 28, 2021 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. She was born on May 21, 1927 in Hagerstown, a daughter of the late Robert and Ressie (Clark) Kirby.
Mary was retired from the Farmers State Bank, later known as First United Bank, in Mooreland as a bank teller from 1976-1991. She had also been employed by Excel Corporation in Muncie, a lighting manufacturer. Mary was a 50 plus year member of the Mooreland Eastern Star and the Daffy Deck’em Card Club. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mary especially enjoyed visits from her great granddaughter, Maren. Visits from her would light up her eyes and make her day. Mary had several hobbies; she enjoyed playing Bingo, Euchre, working on art and crafts and solving puzzles. Mary was also a longtime member of the South Christian Church in Mooreland.
Mary is survived by her son, Don (Jennifer) Koontz of Springport; daughter, Lisa (Chris) Hay of Aurora, IL; grandchildren, Josh (special friend, Jeremy Duling) Koontz of Indianapolis, Jared (Liz) Koontz of Yorktown, MecKenzie (special friend, Dan Hamilton) Koontz of Livermore, CA; great granddaughter, Maren MecKenzie Koontz; brother, Mike (Joyce) Kirby of Mooreland; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Koontz in 2008; a son, Jack Koontz in 1998; brothers, Rex, Ted and Dana Kirby; sister, Peggy Rednour.
Services will be at 1:00pm Wednesday September 1, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Mooreland Cemetery.
