Mary Lou (Shively) Dye

Mary Lou (Shively) Dye was born March 15,1929 in Henry County, Indiana. Her parents were J. B. Shively and Mary Chambers Shively. Mary Lou was the eleventh child of what would become a family of twelve. She was a 1946 graduate of Mt. Summit High School. Mary Lou and Cloyd Dye were married for almost 50 years until Cloyd’s death in 2020.

Aside from being the food service manager at Mt. Summit School System, Mary Lou was a homemaker most of her life. She was an expert seamstress and cook. She loved having family and friends in her home for meals. She and Cloyd entertained several prospective doctors to serve the Henry County community. Mary Lou was a member of the Mt. Summit Christian Church for more than eighty years where she taught Sunday school for 30 years and served on various church committees into her 90’s. She loved serving others. Mary Lou and Cloyd took their family on 17 family vacations. She and Cloyd traveled extensively all over the world. They especially enjoyed going to IU basketball games and were season ticket holders for 40 years.

In addition to her parents and her loving husband, Cloyd, Mary Lou was preceded in death by one son, Jay Earl Canaday; sisters, Frances (Sis), Ruth, Marie and Barb and her brothers, JB (Sunny Jim), Bob, Harry, Allen (Bud), Chet, Ralph (Whitey) and Dick.

Survivors include her daughter, Pam (John) Davidson; son, Joe (Tina) Canaday; step-son, Blake (Kim) Dye, and step-daughter, Staci Dudley. Grandchildren, Abby (Charlie) Mulligan, Josh (Dana) Canaday, Leslie (Ryan) Antiel, Emily (Jay) Bryan and Kelci (Jon) Laster, Bryce and Dylan (Rachael) Dudley. Great grandchildren, Lucas and Olivia Mulligan, Abri Anna and Aleena Canaday, Adelyn, Liam, Olivia and Sadie Antiel, Ayla, Kayleigh, Jace and Ellie Bryan, Dominic, Dallas and Octavia Dudley; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge the dedicated staff of Senior Living at Forest Ridge and the staff at Henry Community Health Hospice for the great care of our mother. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be given to Henry Community Health Hospice in the name of Mary Lou Dye. Envelopes will be available at the church

Services will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Mt. Summit Christian Church. Visitation will be from 2:00pm until the time of service on Saturday.
