Maryann E. (Donnelly) Verdi, age 84, of New Castle, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

Maryann was born on May 9, 1942, in Long Island City to Catherine and Terence Donnelly. She dedicated most of her life to others, working as a caregiver where her natural empathy and compassion truly shone. Maryann was widely known for her incredibly giving personality; friends and family often remarked that "she would give you the shirt off of her back"—and at times, she literally did.

Her boundless generosity extended deeply to the animal kingdom. Maryann adored her many dogs over the years and was a passionate advocate for animal welfare, always promoting the adoption of rescue animals. She put her beliefs into action by volunteering at numerous fundraising events to help shelter animals find safe, loving homes.

Outside of her caregiving and volunteer work, Maryann had a deep love for music. She absolutely adored the legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti and was immensely proud of the multiple times she got to see him perform live in concert. Her love for his music brought an abundance of joy throughout her life.

Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and she spent her final moments surrounded by the people she cherished most. Known for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and unwavering warmth, Maryann created beautiful memories that will be carried forward forever by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Patricia Schlapp and Darlene Bobich Patrick, and her son, Peter Bobich. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lucineia Donnelly of North Carolina; her brothers, Thomas, Timothy, and David Donnelly, all of Horseheads, New York; her sisters, Maureen DiNovi of New York, and Catherine and Noreen of Indiana; as well as her five grandchildren and her great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Catherine and Terence Donnelly, and her brother, Terence Donnelly.

Per her wishes, there will be no traditional funeral services. Instead, her family will hold a Celebration of Life in Horseheads, New York, in May of 2027 to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local animal shelter in Maryann’s honor. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
