Maxine L. Burries, 94, of New Castle passed away Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Henry County Hospital. She was born June 30, 1920 in New Castle to the late Frank Brookshire and Irene Kern.
She was a graduate of New Castle high School. In her younger years, Maxine enjoyed swimming and diving. She also liked to draw, sing, and watch NASCAR and IU Basketball. She was a member of Open Arms Church and a past member of the Mooreland PTA. On Saturday’s, she enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show. Maxine loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and cat, Fluffy.
She is survived by three daughters, Dareth (Mark) Jester, Debbie (Les) Swoveland both of Mooreland, Terry (Jerry) Flynn of New Castle; a son, Donn (Sherry) Berry of Mt. Summit; daughter in law, Carolyn Berry of Brownsburg; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a special friend, Sarah Zackary.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” Burries; a son, Bill Berry; two brothers, Richard Brookshire and William Brookshire; and a sister, Mildred Devine.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor John Tyner officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
