Michael “Mike” Wayne Imel II, 55 of Knightstown, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025. He was born September 6, 1970 in Shelbyville the son of Michael W. Sr. and Judy L. (Spitler) Imel.
Mike graduated from Waldron High School in 1988. He joined the Air Force serving for 10 years, where he received an Electrician Degree and was stationed in Washington, Texas, Germany and Colorado during his service. After the Air Force he moved back to Indiana and worked at Keihn-IPT for 15 years. He also worked at Boars Head, Blue Buffalo and Diamond Pet Foods. He enjoyed watching baseball, football, soccer, golf, hockey and the Olympics. Mike’s favorite baseball team was the New York Yankees and favorite football teams were the Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs. He loved baseball so much he named three of his children after famous baseball players, Joe DiMaggio, Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth. Mike loved golfing, fishing, camping, grilling and going to the beach.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kate Keesling Imel; daughters, Kaylee of Knightstown, Rachel (Cole Reynolds) of West Lafayette; sons, Tyrus and George of Knightstown and Isaac (Rachael Burt) of McCordsville; his mother, Judy Imel of Waldron; sister, Linda Imel of Waldron; nephew, Donovan Imel of St. Paul; uncles, Doug (Linda) Spitler of Greensburg, David (Leonard) Spitler of Atlanta, GA and aunt, Jenannette Flynn of Ballground, GA.
Mike was preceded in death by his father; an uncle, Mike Spitler; maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with military honors conducted by the Knightstown American Legion and the U.S. Air Force at 4:00 PM. Condolences and memories of Mike may be shared at www.hinsey-brown.com.
