Michael "Mike" Richardson

August 13, 1956 — December 9, 2023

Michael “Mike” Richardson, 67, of Knightstown went to “The Big Woods” on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Greenfield. He was born on August 13, 1956 in Monticello, KY, a son of the late Arlie and Joyce (Pruitt) Richardson.

A family man to the core is the best way to describe Mike; his family was most important and up top for him. Another way to describe Mike was an outdoorsman; he loved to fish and was an avid hunter and just loved the outdoors.

Mike was basically a lifelong sawyer; he began working at a saw mill during middle school cutting weeds and worked there for many years. The company was Richardson Lumber Company and later became Troutman Hardwoods. In 2018, Mike opened his own saw mill and logging company, Mike Richardson Timber Company; he was very proud to finally have his own lumber business. Mike had also retired from Avery Dennison in 2017.

Mike’s main skills were in lumber but he was really a “Jack of All Trades”. He was very handy and knew how to fix just about anything. Mike always made sure he passed his knowledge of how to do things on to his family. Growing up, Mike hated horses because he had to feed and carry water for several horses to care for them, until Ruth wanted a horse, she loves horses. Mike grew to love that horse and his name was Big Red. Mike was a 1974 graduate of Tri High School.

Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ruth (True) Richardson of Knightstown; children, Heather (Scott) Bennett of Shirley, Shawn Richardson of Knightstown and Gayland (Christina) Richardson of Lewisville; grandchildren, Mason Richardson, Marissa (AJ) Fairchild, Olivia (Ben) Day, Jake Richardson, JJ Richardson, Grace Richardson, Hunter Richardson and Sawyer Richardson; seven great grandchildren; siblings, Helen (Bill) Gorman, Joyce Richardson, David (Mindy)Richardson all of Knightstown; best buddy, Brian Gandy of Charlottesville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
