Michael Earl Morgan

September 24, 1946 — August 16, 2025

New Castle

Michael Earl Morgan, 78, of New Castle, passed away peacefully at his home on August 16, 2025. He was born on September 24, 1946, in Alamosa, Alamosa County, Colorado, to the late Richard and Opal (Hansen) Morgan. Strong in his faith, Michael was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a community that deeply influenced his values and the way he lived his life.

At the age of 7, Michael and his family moved to the vibrant Sacramento area where he thrived as a cadet. He embodied the boy scout values and almost achieved grandmaster in chess club. During his senior year at San Juan High School, he was invited to participate in a pilot computer science course.

Shortly after he graduated, he served a mission for his church, teaching and serving the people in Louisiana (Gulf States Mission). Upon returning home, he furthered his education in computers and earned an associate’s degree in business administration.

With the Vietnam war looming, Michael chose to enlist and proudly served in the US Army. There his expertise in computers allowed him to remain stateside, aiding the National Security Agency in their development of computer programs. After he was honorably discharged, this service not only laid the foundation for his future endeavors but also culminated in an esteemed position during the Nixon and Ford administrations where he worked at the White House aiding in the installation of a state-of-the-art communications system.

Michael was inherently friendly and didn't know a stranger. He loved serving others, often volunteering whenever his friends needed a helping hand. Wherever he lived, he participated in his local congregation, often contributing his talents as a youth and adult Sunday school teacher and scoutmaster. In his later years he worked as a teachers aid at the local alternative school, continuing to impart important life skills and values to younger generations.

When the alternative school he worked at closed, he pivoted to assisting developmentally disabled adults with daily life. He was able to use the skills he learned from all these experiences to help his mother with the care she required the last few years of her life.

Beyond his career and faith, Michael loved his family. He embraced a multitude of hobbies and interests that showcased his creativity and love for crafting. He was an artist and a maker who loved working with wood, paper, rope, and recyclables. He enjoyed writing poetry, and as an amateur photographer, captured feelings and moments of friends and family. Michael also had a passion for reading, collecting and watching movies, and enjoyed engaging in strategic games, including Chess and Risk, often sharing these pastimes with friends and family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his aunt, Lena Mae Hansen; siblings, Rod Morgan, Val (Elaine) Morgan, Fred (Miriam) Morgan, LeAnn (William) Parker, William (Karen) Morgan, and Jason (Foni) Morgan; daughters, Katie (Rick) Pack, Rebecca Morgan (Jesse Noobii), Rachel (Anthony) Raisor, and Jessica (Erik) Tuterow; grandchildren, Zechariah Tuterow, Lillianna Tuterow, Keith Raisor, Edward Raisor, Tim Raisor, Ellie Raisor, Theodore Raisor, Sarah (James) Wood, and Ashley Pack; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by siblings, Diann Morgan, Timothy Morgan, and Steven Morgan; and son, Michael Joel Morgan.
