Michael “Mike” J. Sokirka, 72, of New Castle, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 1, 2026. He was born on December 20, 1953, in Lock Haven, PA, to the late John and Mildred (David) Sokirka.
Mike’s journey led him to various paths of hard work. Starting his career at Firestone Tire Factory and then Davis Foundry, Mike eventually took a bold step to start his own painting business, followed by a successful venture into lawn care. His work ethic was a testament to his character, steadfastly providing for those he loved.
In addition to his professional life, Mike was deeply rooted in his faith. He moved to New Castle and found a home at the First Apostolic Church, where he dedicated over 50 years as a steadfast and faithful member. As a pillar of the church, he became an example for the younger generation, embodying the values of dedication and service that he held dear. His presence was calming and reassuring, a beacon of hope for many.
Mike loved the outdoors, often spending his days hunting, fishing, and trapping. These passions fueled his love for nature, offering him peace and solace in the beauty of the world around him. His quiet strength resonated not only in his hobbies but also in the loving relationship he shared with his wife, Rena. They shared a beautiful marriage that spanned over 50 years, built on faith and love.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 51 years, Rena Sokirka; children, David Sokirka and Melissa (Alex) Turner; granddaughter, Alivia Turner; and step grandchildren, Keagan Turner and Kayden Turner.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 12:00pm on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Jeff Emmitt officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service on Wednesday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
