Mitzie Eileen Devine

Mitzie Eileen Devine, 91, of New Castle passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026. She was born on August 25, 1935, Olive Hill, KY, to the late Ivan L. and Letha (Crank) Rose.

Mitzie was a 1953 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler High School and a longtime devoted member of First Christian Church in New Castle. Mitzie had a kind and welcoming heart and a way of making everyone she met feel special, she never met a stranger. She also spent many years as a home caregiver, a role that came naturally to her because of her compassionate and caring nature.

Mitzie was actively involved and supported the Henry County Public Library, and the Henry County Community Foundation. During the summers, she would take her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the library weekly, creating special memories and sharing her love of reading with them. Her love for books passed down through the family, Mitzie once held the record for checking out 26 books at one time, reading every one of them within a week as a child.

Of all the things she cherished in life, her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. She loved nothing more than taking her grandchildren and their friends on adventures, whether it was a day of shopping, exploring, or simply finding a good bargain. Mitzie loved a good deal and could turn an ordinary shopping trip into a treasured adventure. She was always ready to load everyone up and make a day of creating memories. She also enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with the people she loved.

She is survived by her children; son, Maurice Devine of Losantville, daughter, Susan “Jill” Haynes of Arlington; grandchildren; Joe (Jessica) Devine of New Castle, Jennifer Hall (Nick Sparks) of Arlington; great grandchildren, Sydney, Madelyn, Micah Devine of New Castle. Caitlin Rider of Shelbyville, Hilary Rose Ernstes of Noblesville, Emilee Ernstes of Cincinnati, Shane Owens of Franklin, Aryana and Addison Hall of Arlington; sister, Sharon Kay (Steve) White of New Castle, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband, Harold Devine; lifelong companion, Richard P. Frankin; and grandchildren, Lindsay Haynes and Ashley Haynes.

Graveside services will be held at South Mound Cemetery (section 10) at 3:00pm on Friday, September 25, 2026 with Pastor Ronn Oren officiating.
