Morris R. Smoot, 92, of Knightstown, stepped onto heaven’s shore Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Heritage House in New Castle. He was born April 28, 1929 in Grant City, the son of William and Faye (Carpenter) Smoot.
Morris was a devout Christian and a self-employed carpenter, having changed many lives with the homes he built for them. He was active in the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene for nearly 70 years. He taught the same Sunday School class for 61 years, served on the church board and was recognized with a Distinguished Service Award. Morris was a witness to many and touched countless lives. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, travelling and camping.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Pat (Brenda) Smoot of Knightstown and Mark (Diane) Smoot of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Wes (Shelly) Smoot, Sarah (Scott) Widner, Tyler Smoot (Connie Jedding), Audrey Smoot (Keegan Austin) and Olivia (Derrick) Winters; great grandchildren, Makaley, Kinsley, Brayley, and Braxton Smoot, Sadie and Seth Widner, Jack & Roxie Winters, and Sienna Austin; step great grandchildren, Jessie Bitter, Kaylyn, Jordan and Dylan Boyd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Smoot, and son, Mike Smoot.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Randy Gross and Ben Day officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
