Nina Charlton

August 26, 1916 — August 23, 2008

Nina Elizabeth Charlton, 92, of New Castle passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. She was born February 26, 1916 in New Castle to the late Clint and Sarah (Cochran) Garner.

A homemaker, she had been a member of Memorial Wesleyan Church for over 57 years and previously a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed cooking for her family, sewing, crocheting and having tea parties. She also liked making crafts, jewelry and clocks as well as playing board games and dancing. She and her husband enjoyed spending winters in Florida and they were members of a camper club.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 75 years: Virgil V. Charlton; two daughters: Donna Jean Charlton Upchurch (husband: Bennett) of New Castle and Della L. Charlton Hornback Zimmerman (husband: Mark) of Cowan; grandchildren: Deborah Upchurch Jones (husband: Gene) of Savannah, GA, Rick Hornback (wife: Kelly) of Sarasota, FL, Ronald J. Upchurch of New Castle, Teresa Hornback Murray (husband: Adam) of Muncie, Michael Upchurch, Brian Scott Upchurch (friend: Lisa) of New Castle; great grandchildren: Tammy Jones Keesling (husband: Mark), Holly Jones Buckley (husband: Justin) Robin, Carly, Kayla, Josh, Crystal and Ashley Upchurch, Alyssa Hornback Machado (husband: Shaun), Stephen Hornback (wife: Rhea) and Kristi Murray; great great grandchildren: Jarret, Ashtyn, Olivia and Emory Keesling, Tyler, Mercedes, Mackenzie and Madison Buckley and Anthony Loyd; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson: Terrence Lane Upchurch; eight brothers and a sister.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Memorial Wesleyan Church with Pastors Paul Kirk, Lloyd VanMeter, and Dennis Kinser officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
