Noel O. Blevins, 81, a resident of New Castle passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at his residence. He was born October 2, 1936 in Monticello, KY to the late Francis and Clarice (Crabtree) Blevins.
Noel retired as a UAW International Rep. after serving 11 years as president, steward and committeeman. A 36 year Chrysler retiree, Noel helped institute the MOA Plant at Chrysler in New Castle which allowed workers to remain working for an additional 20 years. He served on numerous area committees including the Democratic Board, Henry County United Way and Community Foundation, the EDC and the prison board.
Previously, Noel had worked in Security at Arlans Dept. Store, New Castle State Hospital and the YMCA. He also received numerous awards throughout his career as well as “Citizen of the Year”. Noel was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in Germany. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Maggie May.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years: Lillie (Nunn) Blevins; two sons: Noel M. Blevins of Richmond and Wm. Joe (Amy) Blevins of Dunreith; a daughter: Candy S. McClure of New Castle; grandchildren: Amiee Blevins (Clay Christal), Noel M. “Buddy” (Krista) Blevins, Jeremy Eden, Angel (Jeff) Wilkerson, Erica Blevins, Jenny McClure, Ryan Blevins and Christina (Kevin) Jolley; great grandchildren: Kodye Blaylock (Chris Miller), Dillon Wilkerson, Mekayla Hammonds, Austin Hammonds, Tynsley Christal, Rachael Spuehler and Bryce Thompson; great-great grandchildren: Rayne Miller, Brendan Wilkerson and Cambriona Wilkerson; special nephew: Steve Dobbs; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family would like to thank Seasons Hospice of Indianapolis and Clay Christal for all of the wonderful care given to Noel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Stephen “Troy” Blevins, granddaughter: Jessy McClure; a sister: Edna Dobbs; two brothers: Jim and Jack Blevins and a special niece: Brenda White.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 29, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastors Paul and Rick Davis officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Military rites will be conducted by a contingency of the U.S. Army, American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
